Milan expressed their condolences to Stefano Pioli and his family after news broke that his brother-in-law had sadly died.

The 57-year-old Italian coach did not speak to the media after the Rossoneri’s 2-1 win over Fiorentina yesterday and left the Stadio Giuseppe Meazza in tears, being visibly distraught. Pioli recently signed a new contract with Milan and is continuing his strong work in the Lombardy capital.

Milan shared their sadness with Pioli and his family on social media, expressing their condolences and giving support in this obviously tough time.

“We are saddened to learn of the passing of Stefano Pioli’s brother-in-law. Our condolences to the entire Pioli family at this time.

“Milan tightens its grip on the whole family of our coach in a strong and intense embrace for the loss of our dear brother-in-law Luca.”

The six-week World Cup break gives Pioli some quiet time to spend with his family before returning his focus to football next month. The Rossoneri’s first game after the tournament in Qatar is against Salernitana on January 4.

Milan currently sit second in the Serie A table, eight points behind league leaders Napoli. They’ll be desperate to make up for lost ground in the second half of the campaign.
