Several centre-backs had been linked with a move to the Stadio Giuseppe Meazza but neither of them eventually joined the Rossoneri.

The last player that the Serie A giants tried to sign today was Strasburg’s Mohamed Simakan, 20, for whom the Diavoli had offered € 12m plus €3 in add-ons. The Ligue1 club, however, rejected the Rossoneri’s proposal. According to RMC Sport, the player had agreed personal terms with the Rossoneri.

Schalke 04’ Ozan Kabak had also been target by Milan but his move in Serie A fell apart early this afternoon.

Last but not least, Francesco Totti had offered to his old friend Paolo Maldini Chelsea’s Antonio Rudiger but, yet again, Milan couldn’t find an agreement with the Blues.

Therefore, Stefano Pioli has four centre-backs at his disposal until January: captain Alessio Romagnoli, Simon Kjaer, Mateo Musacchio and the young Mateo Gabbia.

The Rossoneri signed several new players in the summer transfer window with the likes of Diogo Dalot, Jens Petter Hauge, Ciprian Tatarusanu, Sandro Tonali, Brahim Diaz and Kalulu Kyatengwa who joined the club.
