Multiple reports in Italy claim Milan goalkeeper Mike Maignan is still struggling with a calf injury, so he will miss the first game of 2023 against Salernitana.

The France international has been out of action since the end of September, when he sustained a calf injury while on international duty with Les Blues.

For this reason, he was not included in his national team’s squad for Qatar 2022.

Sky Sport Italia and Calciomercato.com claim the former Lille keeper has still not recovered and is not showing improvements, so he will miss the first match of the year on January 4, 2023, against Salernitana.

As per Calciomercato, Maignan’s condition may convince the Rossoneri to bring Marco Sportiello to San Siro during the winter transfer window.

The Italian goalkeeper has agreed to join the defending Serie A champions on a free transfer from Atalanta when his contract expires in June, but Milan could pay compensation to La Dea to have him available for the second part of the season.
