Milan CEO Giorgio Furlani reflected on the team’s run to the Champions League semi-final, suggesting that it took the Rossoneri ‘back amongst the best in Europe’.

The Rossoneri exceeded expectations in their European campaign this season, finishing second in a group containing Chelsea, RB Salzburg and Dinamo Zagreb. In the Round of 16, they edged past a declining Tottenham, winning 1-0 on aggregate.

Their quarter-final match-up was an all-Italian affair, with Milan facing Serie A winners Napoli. The Rossoneri impressed across the two legs and qualified for the semi-finals after winning 2-1 on aggregate. Their run came to an end after a painful 3-0 aggregate loss to Inter at the penultimate stage of the competition.

Speaking via Calciomercato.com, Furlani reflected on Milan’s Champions League run and what needs to be done in the final stages of the season.

“Leaving behind the recent disappointment, I want to strongly emphasise that the Champions League run, which has brought us back among the best teams in European football, is a relevant goal, achieved thanks to the commitment and dedication of everyone at the club, which makes us all very proud.

“It is also a further confirmation that, by combining sporting results and financial discipline, we are heading in the right direction. Now more challenges await us to achieve Champions League qualification and to maintain our position at the top in Europe.

“Challenges that see us determined to face them with unity, energy and team spirit, supporting the coach, the team and the entire Sports Area, together with our wonderful fans. As for me, every day I repeat to myself: we are Milan!”

Milan are expected to carry out an important summer transfer window in order to help them close the gap with the teams at the top after their disappointing Serie A campaign.
