Atalanta boss Gian Piero Gasperini claims Mattia Caldara is joining a club ‘just as big as Juventus’ in Milan.

Caldara only left Atalanta for Juve earlier in the summer, having agreed a permanent transfer some 17 months ago, but the defender will instead continue his career at Milan in a straight swap with Leonardo Bonucci.

“It was an unexpected transfer,” he said at a Press conference for the second leg of the Dea’s Europa League second-round qualifier against FK Sarajevo.

“It was an unexpected transfer,” he said at a Press conference for the second leg of the Dea’s Europa League second-round qualifier against FK Sarajevo.

“Mattia had worked hard to prepare as best he could with the intention of joining Juventus, but he’ll still be playing for a team just as big.

“After that, it’s worth considering that he’ll have players in company like Conti, Romagnoli and Kessie, two of them being his former teammates.

“Milan are working with the future in mind and that’s something to be appreciated.”
