Paolo Rossi has praised Filippo Inzaghi for turning Milan into a ‘battalion of fighters’ since his appointment during the summer.

The Rossoneri had suffered at the hands of increasing parsimony in recent times, but they have kicked off the new season with two straight wins in Serie A, including last week’s astonishing 5-4 victory over Parma.

It’s a start that Italy’s 1982 World Cup hero believes is the fruits of new Coach Inzaghi’s never-say-die approach.

“Inzaghi is turning the team into a battalion of fighters,” Rossi told milannews.it.

“I like the spirit that he has infused inside the dressing room. The players now try to get to every ball first.

“Honestly, I never expected such a roaring start. Milan have great players and Inzaghi has given the team all of his enthusiasm and desire to push the accelerator down immediately.”

Even in this optimism, Rossi insists that facing a team of Juventus’ calibre on Saturday will be a true test of Milan’s progress.

“Two matches, however, are not enough to be able to make a final judgment on a team that have demonstrated excellent quality, but that has defensive gaps that need filling.

“It will be a tough test against the winner of the last three titles, as despite some notable absences, they remain a healthy team. They’re fine and proven in the Champions League.

“It’s likely that this match will tell us if Milan will play a leading role [in the title race] or if they will be subjected to talk of more repairs.

“The foundations are there for a great game. Both teams are leading the championship with really promising starts.”

Kick-off between the two Italian giants is scheduled for 19:45 BST.
