The Granata made short work of the Sardinians and their Coach was impressed with the battling approach.

“This was our best performance of the season. The lads were great and played with the spirit of boxers. It was like Raging Bull!” he told Sky Sport Italia.

“Towards the end of the first half we started to flag a little and it’s a shame we conceded that goal, again with a header, but we have the best strike force in Serie A and play beautiful football.

“We still need to do better, though, even if we scored twice with two chances created by pressing to win back the ball. We must always focus on getting the ball back in the opposition half. If we play like this, we have fun and so do our fans.

“I did get angry at half-time because I saw the concentration levels drop. During the break for international duty we really need to work on defending set plays.”

Andrea Belotti had seen two penalties saved this season, but when Iago Falque went to take the spot-kick tonight, Mihajlovic urged Il Gallo to go instead.

“I preferred that Belotti take it to regain a bit of confidence. Iago deserved to score and I did apologise to him for that.”
