“We have to improve and get back to being hungry, because it seems that we’ve become completely bourgeois,” Mihajlovic noted in his pre-match Press conference.

“It’s my mistake though, and I have to transmit the aggressiveness to the players that got us where we are. There are certain mistakes we can’t commit in defence.

“My teams have never conceded so many goals, and I’m disappointed with that. On high balls and dead balls we keep conceding in the same way.

“We’re working to be less vulnerable, it will take work, focus and determination.

“The problems? It’s a bit of everything, but I don’t think there has been a physical decline, because the data has been positive, even against the last teams we faced.

“It can happen during the season that a team will have difficult periods, we need to make some changes to our mentality. Maybe we’ve lost a bit of anger and cynicism, we need to start again with what we were doing at the start of the season.”

Mihajlovic called his compatriot Ljajic “a disaster” after the Napoli defeat and warned “if he plays like this, we’d be better off not having him in the squad at all”.

“I know him well, I know he can give more and he knows it too. He knows that I sometimes say things in public, and that I do it for him, for me and for Toro.

“He can make the difference for us, and I hope he’ll start doing it tomorrow.”

The Serbian was asked if he’ll be asking Santa Claus to bring him some new signings.

“Santa Claus exists,” Mihajlovic replied.

“He’s one of the few good things that there are in the world. I’ve shown my desire to strengthen, if there’s a way to do it then we will.

“I was confident earlier in the season and I still am now, because with some reinforcements we can challenge for the Europa League.

“Things will change depending on whether a player comes at the start or the end of the transfer window, because we’ll have four games over that period.

“If possible it’s best that they come in early, but as long as they arrive it’s fine.”

Finally, Mihajlovic discussed tomorrow's opponents, including striker Giovanni Simeone.

"Genoa are coming off a defeat, but they have a well-defined game and they beat Juventus, Milan and Fiorentina.

"They have physicality and interesting players like Cholito [Simeone]. I hope tomorrow he'll remember his father [Diego] and I are friends…"
