Sampdoria Coach Sinisa Mihajlovic accepted a 2-2 draw with Milan, as “both teams tried everything to win.”

The Blucerchiati had gone a goal down, then fought back to lead 2-1 until a Jeremy Menez penalty equalised.

“It was a good game in which both teams tried everything to win. My lads gave their all and I cannot ask for more, but we met a team that has a fearsome strike force,” he told Sky Sport Italia.

Milan are solid and organised, as are we, so this is another sign of how much we have grown since last season.

“When we were 2-1 up we had some chances to win it, then changed system and stopped going so deep. I think the draw was a fair result.

“I said before the season began that our objective was to stay in the top half of the table. There’s a long way to go, but if we continue like this then we can achieve some great things.”

Mihajlovic shook up his 4-3-3 system by reshuffling the players on the pitch.

“De Jong was free, so we decided the best form of defence is attack, pressuring de Jong with Soriano. We had our best period of the game then and it is not easy to go in front against a side like Milan.

“There is no specific system that can make you win or lose a match. The important things are mentality, spirit and we saw all season these lads have what it takes. With their belief and eagerness to work for the team, they can adapt to any system.”

Roberto Mancini said this week that Mihajlovic is ready to take the main job at Inter.

“I am the Coach of Sampdoria and do not think of other things. Mancio said that because we are friends, but I go forward along my path and I’m happy with my team.”
