“If we win tomorrow, it’ll be 18 points in nine rounds, so an average of two points per game. We have been penalised by the bad start to the season and dropped two valuable points at Carpi. We must never again repeat the opening 20 minutes of that match.
“Tomorrow will be similar, so it’s down to us to break the deadlock as quickly as possible. We need the right attitude. It’s impossible for us to play four forwards and end so many games without finding the net.
“We must learn to give our best from the start. Perhaps at times the lads feel that a match is easier than it really is, but in Italy there’s no such thing as an easy fixture. The draw at Carpi proved that and we have to be on point.
“We’ve been more solid in defence recently and since the Napoli defeat have found a certain consistency in terms of results.
“Carlos Bacca has to relax, he’s experienced and knows there can be difficult moments for a striker. He hasn’t scored for four games, but he let M’Baye Niang take the penalty against Sampdoria.
“Mario Balotelli is recovering and started training with the team, but has been out for two months, so it’ll take a little longer. He’s not ready yet, we’ll see for the Coppa Italia game or Frosinone next week.
“We have to improve everything and the 4-4-2 system means nothing if you don’t have the right mentality. We had the same system against Sampdoria and Carpi, yet there was a huge difference.”
Mihajlovic also hit back at continuing reports of problems in the locker room and a difference in viewpoints with President Silvio Berlusconi.
“Despite the rumours that continue to circulate around Milan, this team is united and solid. We are disappointed that the fans are protesting and we know the only way to end that is to win. Tomorrow against Verona is a game we ought to be winning.
“I have always had a good rapport with the President. I like hearing from him and Adriano Galliani is right when he says nobody should feel comfortable. I discussed lots of things with the President yesterday, including the transfer market.”
