Philippe Mexes hopes victory over Napoli can be “the turning point” for Milan and now aims to beat his old club Roma.

The Rossoneri caught Napoli in joint sixth place after a 2-0 win at San Siro last night, putting them just two points shy of the Champions League spots.

“We hope it will prove to be the turning point in our campaign,” defender Mexes told Milan Channel.

“We haven’t achieved anything yet, but we are on the right track. We need more belief and consistency to get better results.

“We prepared all week for this game after a difficult defeat to Genoa. We didn’t want to lose this too and it was very important for us to do well in our last home game of the year. Plus it was against Napoli!

“Now we intend to go to Roma with the same hunger and get as many points as possible.”

The Frenchman is certainly familiar with the Stadio Olimpico, as he wore the Roma jersey from 2004 to 2011.

“Roma is in my heart, even if it’s in the past now. We will give our all and then see who wins at the end. The important thing is to have no regrets at the final whistle.”

Mexes praised some of his teammates after the 2-0 victory over Napoli.

“Jack Bonaventura deserves all the praise for what he’s doing. He’s a great lad, I love his attitude and I admire him.

“It’s pleasing to keep a clean sheet, thanks also to Diego Lopez, but our strikers help the defence too. It’s that team spirit that makes us stronger.

“We all get along and there is healthy competition for places. That’s the way to go far. Even in front of defeats, we react together. Of course, it’s much easier to look forward to the next game after a victory.”
