Defender Philippe Mexes admits it’s ‘fundamental’ for Milan to return to Europe next season.

The Rossoneri are currently 10th in Serie A, 10 points away from the final Europa League place [barring a complicated set of circumstances which would see seventh grant entry], but the former Roma man insists they should be aiming for Europe.

The Rossoneri are currently 10th in Serie A, 10 points away from the final Europa League place [barring a complicated set of circumstances which would see seventh grant entry], but the former Roma man insists they should be aiming for Europe.

“The Europa League?” Mexes considered as he spoke to Milan Channel.

“It’s fundamental, Milan can’t stay out of Europe.

“We have to keep our heads up, it’s a difficult League for everyone, and we have to win from Saturday onwards.

“We have to stop conceding goals, because we know we’ll score a goal sooner or later.”

Pippo Inzaghi’s men lost at Fiorentina last night, despite taking a 1-0 lead and Mexes says there were good things on show.

“We have to take the good things. Unfortunately our levels dropped and things went wrong again. [But] We saw a purposeful Milan which tried to play the ball.

“We’re Milan and we must continue in that way.”

The Diavolo welcome Cagliari to San Siro in their next fixture, who have a Coach with an all-out attack style in Zdenek Zeman, who has returned to the bench after being dismissed earlier in the season.

“We’re not interested [in Zeman’s return], we’re only thinking about ourselves and looking to win.” Mexes insisted.
