The Catalan side are aiming for a fifth consecutive competition semi-final appearance, but to achieve it they must beat the Rossoneri at the Camp Nou on Tuesday evening.

With the advantage of having not conceded an away goal to Barca, Milan go into the tie knowing that a score draw will be enough to advance to the next round, something that Messi has made clear his side are keen to avoid.

“We have to win, we have no choice,” he wrote on Barcelona’s page on social networking site Weibo.

“Milan is a tough team to face because they know how to defend themselves very well. We must beat them at all costs, so as to go through.

“The victory is the only condition that will meet that target. Our hunger has never waned, it is a key to having so much success.”

Messi is currently the competition’s top goal-scorer this season with 12 goals, but from seven previous career appearances against Italian opposition, he has scored only one goal.
