“Tomorrow will be important,” Mertens told Tiki Taka last night.

“We lost to Shakhtar, so tomorrow will be an important game.

“I’m really disappointed for Milik, he’s been incredibly unlucky. We’re all there for him. We need to continue, the squad is there and we have to continue and keep doing well.”

Mertens scored a sensational goal against Lazio, which drew comparisons with Diego Maradona, who hit a similar strike against the Biancocelesti.

“I saw that the goal was open, I turned and I shot. There wasn’t much to think about.

“Maradona? You can compare the goals, but not the players. It’s a pleasure for me to hear these comparisons but I have a lot of respect, I’m Dries and I want to help the team and keep my feet on the ground.”

Both Juventus and Napoli maintain 100 per cent records so far, though former Partenopei striker Gonzalo Higuain is struggling so far this season…

“I’m playing for Napoli and I think about Napoli,” Mertens shrugged.

“There’s not only Juve, there are other teams too. We need to think about our game. Roma are a strong team, and [Radja] Nainggolan is a player who makes the difference.”
