“I don’t think Inter have failed this season,” Melo said to Globo Esporte.

“We’re a team in construction, we have a lot of new players and for now our reality is the Europa League.

“We can’t think about the Champions League given that Roma don’t need much, the Giallorossi could even catch Napoli in second place.

“We started well, then we thought about at least coming third but it’s still important that we’re back in Europe.”

The Brazilian arrived from Galatasaray last summer and reflected on the move and how he’s settled back into life in Serie A.

“I didn’t do pre-season because I wanted to leave Galatasaray and come back to Italy,” he said.

“At the start it went well, then I had a physical and psychological decline.

“Turkish football is very different from Italian. Serie A is the most difficult league in the world tactically.

“But in the last few games I’ve managed to give my contribution to the team and I’m happy that I can be a part of the project.”
