Marco Fassone has backed Walter Mazzarri to continue at Inter and explained further the ‘soft revolution’ underway under Erick Thohir.

The club are enduring a year of change since Thohir’s November takeover and are expected to further develop the team on the pitch and behind the scenes come the summer.

“We are in transitional year, at the end of an extraordinary cycle,” director general Fassone has considered on the matter to Radio Rai today.

“We have players who have won everything and are about to come to the end, and we are evaluating things on a technical level.

“It is clear that next season will be the beginning of a new cycle. It is a phase that all big clubs go through after a moment of absolute peak – it has happened to Juventus” data-scaytid=”8″>Juventus and is happening at Manchester United.”

Speculation continues to surround Javier Zanetti’s future and if he will become a director at the club should he hang up his boots.

“Thohir has shown that he does not have the approach that will be changed for personal bias. He will still need a few months to complete what he has in his mind from the organisational point of view.

“Zanetti, if the will is there, will be part of our family and, at the moment, he is a protagonist in the team.

“This ‘soft revolution’ of Thohir’s has begun and developments will be in the coming months.

“The idea is for a balanced team with an average age of 26, to develop young players, but also to have the champions in place to help them.

“We will search diverse markets for established champions like Vidic, but also for young players with great prospects, for them to learn and fit into the vision of Mazzarri.

“Will those prospects be Italian? Internazionale, the same says it all. Of course we must not forget, with European competition to play, there are some UEFA rules to follow, with four Italians and four formed in the academy to include, so, eight of the 25 will have to be Italian, if only for regulation.”

On the Coach, Fassone was asked if more had been expected this season.

“Well I do not know. I will say that Mazzarri is an excellent Coach. We are at a particularly complicated moment, especially for the corporate changes.

“The players do suffer and Milan are another example of this. The drop in performance has coincided with the bumps to the society.

“Mazzarri has all the confidence that he deserves. Now will come the investment, whilst the club needs to stay healthy between the market and reducing debt.

“Do you know that Inter has a wealth of important debts and we cannot continue like this because of Financial Fair Play?

“We are on the right track, we have already done much with the reduction of the wage bill and we are now attacking this on the level of depreciation.

“But we must also recover competitiveness to those who lie ahead of us. We do not have all the time in the world, because we are Inter, so we have to be really quick.

“Mazzarri is a certainty and one of the pillars on which the club is based. He is the technical point of reference for the President, who he is discussing the squad for the future with.”
