Napoli Coach Walter Mazzarri has raved about Lorenzo Insigne and given his opinion on a number of fellow Serie A Coaches.

Insigne’s successful loan spell with Pescara saw them win the Serie B title last term and the 21-year-old walk away with the Player of the Season award. And the Partenopei Boss has been impressed with the winger since his return to his parent club.

“Insigne is a player that is perfect for the current era of football, as he is a footballer who thinks about the team before himself,” commented Mazzarri in an interview with Corriere dello Sport.

“He is a type who is generous, runs a lot, is pivotal in his movement and helps his teammates.

“It is true that he is making very fast progress, but let’s not forget he is making the transition from Serie B to A and representing his hometown club, which will bring emotions and added pressure.

“I honestly do not know if Insigne will become as good or have as much success as Ezequiel Lavezzi, but he is a very mature young man who handles the pressure very well.”

The 50-year-old then spoke about Milan Coach Massimiliano Allegri – who he has had run-ins with in the past – and new Roma Boss Zdenek Zeman.

“I was not surprised by Zeman’s return to Roma, as it is the Presidents that make the decisions,” said the former Sampdoria boss. “I do not know him directly but I have heard a lot and I have studied his work. I like those who impose their own style wherever they are.

“I think my relationship with Allegri is at times a good one. I have a very normal style with him and do not have any problems with him at all on a personal level.”

Mazzarri ended by using a slightly unusual metaphor to describe his working relationship with Partenopei President Aurelio De Laurentiis.

“My relationship with De Laurentiis is much like two trains running parallel which never crash against each other in any situation.

“So, in short, a very good one that is strong, as we both want the club to go in the same direction.”
