Walter Mazzarri is happy with Inter’s goalless draw with PAOK and explains that his side are not underestimating Stjarnan.

The Nerazzurri played out a 0-0 result with PAOK in Greece on Thursday evening, to end their pre-season campaign with a more content Coach than last week.

“We were more careful than in Frankfurt. In Germany the result was a little careless, but here we have paid more attention, and we were much better,” Mazzarri considered post-match.

“PAOK had never played a back three before, they tried to surprise us. We had been studied and they tried to put us under pressure.

“But we were prepared, we resisted in the field and, in any case, the team knew what it was doing.

“They were perhaps better than us, but we have not given them anything.

“Among the many purposes of these games is to also increase the playing time for the players who up until this moment have played very little.

“I think for example of M’Vila and Kovacic and that in this way they can recover their shape much faster. I have to say that I am satisfied.

“Dani Osvaldo? I am pleased with his debut. He has begun certain workouts only a few days ago and I am satisfied with what I saw in the field.”

This is Inter’s final warm-up match of pre-season, before next week they start official competition in the form of the Europa League Play-off round.

They play the first leg away to Icelandic side Stjarnan next Wednesday.

“We have to do well this week. We must be careful and stay focused because playing away from home is never easy and in this regard it has been very useful to make sense of these friendlies.

“We do not underestimate the next game against the Icelanders, it will be very important to play well so as to face the return leg in a relaxed manner.”
