Juventus’ Blaise Matuidi says his side’s win over Napoli sent out ‘a clear message’ to their Serie A title rivals.

Gonzalo Higuain’s goal gave the Old Lady a vital victory over Maurizio Sarri’s team on Friday, hauling the defending champions back to within one point of the then-League leaders.

Speaking to Sky Sport, the French midfielder hailed Juve’s ‘very important’ win but added that there is still a long way to go in the season.

“It wasn’t a decisive match, but it was definitely very important,” Matuidi said.

“Winning meant a lot in terms of our season in the League. We sent out a clear message – that Juve are there, that the team is strong and on course for the Scudetto.

“We work every day in order to be the best. Our aim is to win and the season is long.”

Matuidi then looked ahead to Juve’s decisive Champions League clash with Olympiacos in the week.

Max Allegri’s team must beat the Greek champions in order to be certain of progression to the Round of 16.

Should they fail to do so, they will be dependent on Portuguese side Sporting CP failing to defeat Barcelona in the group’s other game.

“We mustn’t think about the risks, just about going out on the pitch to win, like in every game.

“We will go there to play our game against a team who are difficult to face.

“But we have all the potential to do well and get the three decisive points.”
