Former Milan striker Alessandro Matri has apologised for 'disappointing the team' where he grew up.

In his second spell with the club, he scored just once, but what was the best goal of his career?

"It was the one I scored for Juventus in the Coppa Italia final when we beat Lazio," Matri told Gazzetta dello Sport.

"My best Coach? My ties to [Massimiliano] Allegri are well-known, I have a relationship with him that goes beyond the pitch.

"[Eusebio] Di Francesco is perhaps more methodical. Allegri knows how to keep the balance in bad times."

Does the striker hold out any hopes of a recall to the Italian national team?

"I hope so, but it's not an obsession. I have no pretensions, it’s been two years.

"I would have liked to play in the Italian Super Cup against Juve: I know the atmosphere better as I was born Milanista. Juve now have the desire to make up for the defeat.

"What did went wrong for me at Milan? I still wonder even now, maybe I was loaded too with too much pressure, I had too many expectations on me.

"But the fault was mine, I'm sorry I disappointed the team where I grew up.

"My nickname Mitra-Matri? I like it, I was given the name by Juve fans. I remember a banner: my face on the body of Rambo.

"Puma? My friend had the idea from a song, though [Francesco] Magnanelli should not be jealous: the real Sassuolo Puma is him."
