“The important thing is we were able to bring home a point,” said Matri. “Perhaps it’s lucky my goal was disallowed, as that evened out the one Sulley Muntari was not given in the first half.

“My goal is worth a great deal, but not for the Scudetto. A defeat would’ve been a heavy blow, but we maintain our unbeaten record, which means a lot to us.”

Matri grew up in the Milan youth academy, but was never given much consideration at the club.

“It was a special atmosphere for me, as it was the first time I had played such an important match. It meant a lot to me to be here.”
