Roma fans fear Nemanja Matic will leave the Stadio Olimpico at the end of the season after thanking Giallorossi supporters and saying he ‘wore this jersey with pride.’

The Serbia international signed a one-year deal with Roma last summer, joining as a free agent from Manchester United. A clause to automatically extend his contract until 2024 was activated in April, but his latest Instagram post leaves doubt on his future in the capital.

“We gave everything, we fought until the end. In the end, the lottery decided. I wore this jersey with pride, thank you Giallorossi for all the love,” wrote the ex-Manchester United midfielder.

Many Roma fans commenting on the post fear this means Matic will leave the club at the end of the season. All of them are grateful to the Serbia for his great season, including a big performance in the Europa League Final against Sevilla on Wednesday, which ended with a bitter loss on penalties.

Matic, 34, has scored two goals in 49 appearances under José Mourinho this season.

During a recent interview with Sky Sports UK, Matic said he wanted to become a coach after his playing career and take charge of a Premier League club.
