New Sassuolo signing Matheus Henrique assures he has been on their radar for at least two years and describes what he will bring to the Neroverdi midfield.

The Brazilian from Gremio is essentially the replacement for Manuel Locatelli, who eventually got his dream transfer to Juventus.

“I am a midfielder who likes to start moves and keep the ball, but also make runs into the box,” said Matheus Henrique during his press conference.

“Sassuolo had been in contact with my agent since the second half of 2019, but the clubs could not reach an agreement. Sassuolo kept pushing and in 2021 I finally arrived at this great club.

“I have always watched European leagues and saw how Sassuolo have developed in Serie A, bringing players to international duty. Rogerio also told me about the club and its fans, they play good football and are not dissimilar in style to Gremio. I hope not to let anyone down.”

The 23-year-old already has one senior cap for Brazil, earned in October 2019, and took part in the Tokyo Olympics this summer.

“Making my debut for Brazil was a dream come true and it’s one of those moments that comes back to me every day. I got to work and play alongside the likes of Dani Alves, Neymar and Casemiro.

“Winning the Olympic gold medal with Brazil this summer was also a huge moment, as only twice has Brazil won the gold in the football tournament. It’s an event none of us can ever forget.”
