Former Italy and Inter defender Marco Materazzi hopes Ciro Immobile will score against England on Sunday and believes the Three Lions ‘fear’ the Azzurri.

Materazzi, a 2006 Italy World Cup winner, previewed the UEFA Euro 2020 Final between the Azzurri and England in an interview with La Gazzetta dello Sport.

His Italy side qualified for the World Cup Final in 2006 beating host country Germany in the semis and the 47-year-old sees similarities between that game and Sunday’s clash at Wembley Stadium.

“England play at home, like Germany in 2006. I remember the Germans’ faces in the tunnel. They were as white as their shirts,” the former defender said.

“We were telling each other: ‘They have fear, they have fear,’ and they really had it. We had a person who was translating what they were saying on the pitch and they were feeling the pressure.

“The other day I saw the faces of England players after Denmark’s goal and Roberto Mancini should show it to his players too.

“We have played twice at Wembley with goals from Fabio Capello and Gianfranco Zola. This time, I hope Immobile will get his name on the scoresheet.”
