Milan assistant boss Mauro Tassotti has conceded that it took some time for the Rossoneri to get into their stride against PSV Eindhoven.

The Rossoneri collected a 1-1 draw in the first leg of their Champions League preliminary tie in Holland on Tuesday.

“We scored with our first chance through Stephan El Shaarawy, then Mario Balotelli the bar, but we did not start the game well,” the former right-back noted.

“They created some problems and we ran some risks. Then, in the second half, they scored with a shot which was hard to hold for goalkeeper Christian Abbiati.”

While PSV’s campaign is already in full swing, last night’s tie was Milan’s first competitive match of 2013-14.

“A competitive game is very different from a friendly,” he added. “And it was impossible to think that we could wrap up qualification today.

“I think we played well and I believe that our fitness will improve. When PSV got tired, the game became balanced again.

“We collected a decent result, but the return will also be tough.”
