“it’s important to put in a strong performance and I’d say Roma are direct rivals for our objectives this season,” the director general told Mediaset Premium.

“Playing at home or away makes little difference, as we already showed that we could go to the Stadio San Paolo and take the victory against Napoli without fear.

“The Coach has a top quality squad at his disposal. There are first choices and co-first choices. He puts the best XI out for every game in tactical, technical and even psychological terms.

“Those left on the bench should not be downhearted, as substitutes coming off the bench are often decisive for the result.”

Marotta was asked if Juventus will take any action on the January transfer window, for instance with regards to Emre Can of Liverpool.

“Juventus depend on ourselves. We have a strong and competitive squad, we do not need to fix anything and the January transfer window tends to be used to correct weaknesses.

“I think Roma and Napoli are the main Scudetto contenders. You can add Inter in there too, as they have no midweek commitments, so even after two consecutive defeats, I believe they can climb back up and still play an important role this season.”

Alex Sandro has been linked with a move to Chelsea, Manchester City or Manchester United in future.

“We always showed faith in Alex Sandro and he is rediscovering the form he had last season. Hopefully he’ll repay us for that faith with a good performance tonight.”
