General manager Giuseppe Marotta admits Alvaro Morata’s clause is like “the sword of Damocles” hanging over Juventus.

The Spanish striker joined from Real Madrid in the summer of 2014, but Los Merengues inserted a buyback clause for the summer of 2016 and 2017.

Today the player himself admitted he doesn’t know where he’ll be next season, and Marotta also spoke about the situation at the inauguration of the Bianconeri’s new medical centre.

“The fact of Morata staying or not isn’t totally down to Juventus,” the director acknowledged.

“The clause? It’s the sword of Damocles hanging over the player’s stay. It was the only condition in taking him to Turin.

"First there must be an agreement between Madrid and Juventus, I can only reiterate that our choice was targeting a young promising player who has fulfilled that.

"We're proud, and we're proud of him. We'll open up a dialogue with Real Madrid as soon as possible, to keep him here with us if we can."

It was reported today that Coach Massimiliano Allegri had agreed a new contract, and Marotta confirmed that the club is working on an extension.

“The renewal of Allegri’s contract is our priority. There will certainly be the time and opportunity to do it.

"There's every reason to continue the winning cycle. The contract is a formal thing, what matters if having a common strategy with the Coach.

"We have a good relationship with Allegri, based on trust.

"Extending his contract is a formality. As I said before, there's every reason for us to continue a winning cycle."
