General manager Giuseppe Marotta says Juventus “have never approached” Milan’s Riccardo Montolivo.

The Rossoneri captain is out of contract at the end of the season, and it has been suggested that the Old Lady could bring him to Turin, much as they did with Andrea Pirlo in 2011.

“[Pirlo] came at a time when we were just setting-up a high quality team,” Marotta noted on Premium Sport.

“Now though we have midfielders who give us guarantees. I say that without detracting from the value and professionalism of Montolivo, who we don’t even know if he’ll sign for Milan.

“We’ve never approached him.”

Marotta was also asked about Paris Saint-Germain striker Zlatan Ibrahimovic, who is also out of contract in the summer, and has been linked with a return to Serie A.

“He’s a champion who left Italy when his level was still very high. I think that big players are always welcome in Italy, and I think the League always needs players like that.”
