With two games left to play, coach Enzo Maresca has secured Leicester City’s promotion to the Premier League in his debut season.

The 44-year-old Italian tactician, who previously worked closely with Pep Guardiola at Manchester City, took over at the Foxes back in July of last year following the club’s relegation to the Championship, tasked with taking them back up to the top.

Due to the quality of their squad and their hefty wage bill, Leicester couldn’t risk missing out on an immediate bounce back to the topflight, pilling the pressure on Maresca and his squad. Things looked simple until February, when some shaky form caused concerns in the East Midlands.

Maresca takes Leicester City to the top

BBC Sport highlighted how Leeds United’s 4-0 defeat to Queens Park Rangers on Friday evening mathematically guaranteed automatic promotion to the Premier League for Leicester City, who now sit four points clear at the top of the Championship table.

Despite the late drop in form, it was a positive and successful debut campaign for Maresca, who’ll now have the chance to prove his might in the Premier League.

  1. How is promotion secured when there are 2 games left, leicester at 94 point on top and Ipswich at 90 points on 3rd.
If Leicester loses the remaining 2 games and Ipswich wins Leicester will be in the Playoffs
