Chelsea defender Marcos Alonso took to social media to reassure Jorginho with a message written in Italian after the Italy international had missed the first penalty of the season for Chelsea.

Jorginho, a former Napoli star, had converted nine penalty kicks from nine at a club level this term before yesterday’s error against West Ham. It gave all Italy fans a feeling of déjà vu as the 29-year-old has missed the last three penalty kicks for the Azzurri, including two in two games against Switzerland during the World Cup qualification group.

Ex-Fiorentina defender Marcos Alonso wrote a brief message on Instagram to cheer up his teammate. ‘You are great,’ he wrote in Italian (‘Sei Grande’), adding a picture with the Italy star.

Both Jorginho and Marcos Alonso have been linked with a return to Italy as Juventus are reportedly interested in signing them over the summer. The Spain international joined Chelsea from Fiorentina in 2016 and has managed 26 goals in 200 games with the Blues. Both Jorginho and Marcos Alonso see their contracts expire in June 2023.

  1. Everybody is going to try to cheer him up when he screws up. He’s the only one who can pick himself up from this slump.

  2. why are they even letting him take these PK….. He clearly isn’t in the same state of mind as before the whole missing PK started. He should have the decency to give it to another player. Honestly, hes just making it worse for himself.

  3. He is not a professional. If he is, he should be smart enough to refrain from taking penalties. The fact that he is missing them, puts a burden everytime he kicks one. He should shoulder responsibility and refrain from taking penalties. Very simple.
