Marchisio retired from the game last summer after battling various injury problems.

He gave a lengthy interview to DAZN and discussed an array of topics.

Il Principino, as he was nicknamed throughout his career, recalled the early days of his career.

“I was never really able to hold back, especially when I was younger, I did a lot of dumb things,” Marchisio told the streaming service.

“The biggest of all was when I was 18 or 19. I was training with the first team with Fabio Capello as coach, and I decided to sleep in my car after a night out.

“In the morning I woke up to the sound of Alessandro Del Piero’s car. I slept in the car because it wasn’t right to go home.

“Alex saluted me for my punctuality, but he didn’t know I slept in the car.”

Marchisio played under a plethora of coaches during his 11 years at Juve.

“My first important coach was Didier Deschamps, I was young, and he believed in me in a difficult year like the one in Serie B.

“Ciro Ferrara was the one who gave me an identity on the pitch, with him I became a goalscoring midfielder, which I was then for years.

“Antonio Conte was very important for all of us. He brought back the soul of Juventus.

“Conte made us win on the pitch but above all he made us win inside our heads.”

Asked if he still missed playing, Marchisio’s answer was affirmative.

“I miss playing, I miss the smell of the grass cut in spring, I miss the spotlight, the public, but also putting on a new shirt.

“I miss the excitement of scoring a goal, you don’t realise how much oxygen you lose. Celebrating a goal takes more out of you than the long run you have to make in order to score the goal!”
