“We need the perfect match against Roma,” warned the Coach in his Press conference.

Nicolò Barella is suspended, with Lucas Castro and Charalampos Lykogiannis injured.

“We mustn’t think too much about those who aren’t here. Naturally, I’d always like the full squad at my disposal, but I am sure those who do play with give a strong contribution.

“The problem is that we are up against an opponent with formidable technique and quality, and players who can resolve a game at any moment. It’ll be tough.”

Roma’s injury crisis is remarkable, missing the likes of Edin Dzeko, Stephan El Shaarawy, Daniele De Rossi and Lorenzo Pellegrini, while Kostas Manolas is also in doubt.

“Without Dzeko, they’ll play the ball to feet more, but Patrik Schick can be dangerous when taking men on. The Giallorossi are paying the price for a difficult start to the season, but have now found their feet. They played very well in the 2-2 draw with Inter and have a Coach in Eusebio Di Francesco who puts his mark on a team.

“We’ve got to approach this game in its totality to put in the perfect performance. The first thing we need is courage, then sacrifice, focus and logic. We must try to be the architects of our own destiny.

“Our mentality has to be of going out there with self-confidence to enjoy our football.”

Maran revealed that Roma will always have a special place in his heart.

“My first Serie A match was against Roma at the Olimpico in 2012. I was in charge of Catania, they equalised at the 93rd minute and we hit the bar at the 94th with Castro.”
