Juventus striker Mario Mandzukic has reportedly slashed his wage demands to around €170,000 in order to secure a move to Manchester United.

According to The Sun, Mandzukic is ready to join United in January and is prepared to earn half of the €347,000 (£300,000) per week he was previously holding out for.

“His reps have been in contact and are willing to change their demands,” an unnamed source told the newspaper.

“There will be other bonuses factored into the deal. It looks like one that could get done now.

“Ole has long been an admirer of him and he is someone we have wanted for a number of years.

“His experience could prove vital for the younger players in the squad. He is also a proven goalscorer.”

The 33-year-old has already rejected a lucrative switch to Qatar, seemingly to keep himself free for a transfer to Old Trafford.

However, The Sun doubts he will link up with ex-Juve boss Max Allegri in Manchester as Ole Gunnar Solskjaer “has been assured he is not facing the axe.”

Mandzukic has yet to see any game time at all under Maurizio Sarri this season, with Gonzalo Higuain regaining his place in attack.
