Mancini, in an interview with La Stampa, was asked whether he was intimidated by the prospect, and his answer was direct
“No,” he said. “Besides, I'd be sincerely happy if Milan returned to the top with both its teams. The championship becomes more exciting.
“I'm not sceptical about all of these foreign investors. It's the consequence of the crisis we're living in.
“To compete against clubs that can invest monstruous amounts of money like Barcelona and Real Madrid, you need alternative plans.”
The 50-year-old was also asked what it was like to work with a distant President like Erick Thohir.
“Thohir is much closer than people think. He always called me before and after the games, and at this very moment he wants to know what's going on.
“In terms of the sporting side he's constantly in touch with me, with [Marco] Fassone and [Piero] Ausilio.
“Massimo Moratti comes across as his main supporter. When I returned to Inter I passed by to pay him a visit, and we exchanged greetings a short while ago before I left for my holidays.
“He's still a great Inter supporter, but I don't think he's nostalgic of being the President.”
Finally, Mancini was asked how long Milan's new Coach Sinisa Mihajlovic would last under President Silvio Berlusconi, who already got rid of Coaches Clarence Seedorf and Filippo Inzaghi in the last two years.
“I don't know,” smiled Mancini. “He works very hard, he expects the most from his players, he has a strong personality.
“He'll have a good experience. I know that Napoli were looking for him too, then it ended up as it did.
“He did say that he would never go to Milan, but that means nothing – even I said that I'd never return to Inter.
“You're allowed to say certain things. At the end of the day we're all professionals and we go where we think is best.”
