Coach Roberto Mancini insists his Inter side is “taking shape”, and has no problem with Mauro Icardi.

The Nerazzurri are six points behind third-placed Roma, with their stated aim being Champions League qualification, but Mancio can see the positives.

“A lack of goals?” Mancini considered in his Press conference ahead of the Napoli game.

“We never told the players not to score, there are times when the strikers score goals and times where they don’t.

“A lack of goals?” Mancini considered in his Press conference ahead of the Napoli game.

“We never told the players not to score, there are times when the strikers score goals and times where they don’t.

“That was our achilles heel at the beginning, with seven or eight more goals we’d have at least six points more.

“Now we have to think about the last six games, the team is beginning to take shape, there are fixed points for the future.

“We’re missing important players who could help this young team, but we’ve started to have fixed points of reference and that’s crucial. Now we’ll think of the six remaining games.

“Unfortunately we’ve dropped some points and now we’re chasing, so we need a little bit of luck to be on our side.

“They will be six difficult games, the teams we’re playing are all tough and some will have nothing to lose.”

Mauro Icardi is the club’s top-scorer, but has been dropped on numerous occasions, is there a rift with the striker?

“There have never been any problems. If a player is on the bench they’re never happy, it’s happened to Icardi, [Stevan] Jovetic and [Rodrigo] Palacio.

“There have never been any problems, as people have written. I don’t know why [they wrote that].”

When Napoli and Inter met in the Coppa Italia there was a falling-out between the two Coaches, and the former Manchester City manager discussed that and the introduction of video refereeing.

“I’ll shake hands with Sarri, the incident is in the past,” Mancini promised.

“I’m not in favour of video replays. I’m for refereeing mistakes, not from assistants or goal judges, but from the referees.”
