Inter Coach Roberto Mancini admits “we aren’t the best-equipped team” to win the Scudetto.

The Nerazzurri are just a point off the top of Serie A, but relinquished the lead to Napoli with a 2-1 defeat on Monday night.

“Will we fight for the Scudetto?” Mancini considered, addressing the media ahead of the visit of Genoa.

“We want to, we’re Inter and we have an obligation to do so, even if we aren’t the best-equipped team. The League is balanced though, and points will be divided in head-to-heads.

“Our first objective is to get to the Champions League, but we want to do more. Juve can recover, and Roma and Napoli are strong.

Fiorentina are playing well and the summit is quite balanced.”

While the Beneamata received praise after Monday’s game, Mancini believes his side showed too much respect to their opponents.

“I’d rather have left San Paolo with three points. Sometimes there are defeats which put you in the position to understand certain things, the condition of the team and your opponents.

“The bad thing is the defeat. We showed Napoli too much respect, the game started with conceding a goal and that affected us for 15 or 20 minutes.

“Positives? In spite of the 2-0 the team kept believing and wanted to get back into the game, it was good because we took the risk that we could concede.

“A lot of teams have lost four or five nil [to Napoli], we had a lot of chances and that’s a good thing.”
