Roberto Mancini says it’s ‘useless to complain’ after Milan started their first-ever Serie A match with no Italian players but admits Juventus‘ Nicolò Fagioli and Fabio Miretti will have ‘an important future’ with the national team.

The defending Serie A champions were held to a 1-1 draw by Salernitana at San Siro on Monday night, a match the Rossoneri started with no Italian players in their line-up. It was the first time ever in Serie A.

“This is a problem we’ve had for a long time. It’s useless to complain, we just need to find solutions,” Mancini told DAZN.

“Clearly, I am sorry. There are many young Italian players, but coaches do their choices and the same goes for clubs, we must find solutions, and sometimes it’s not easy.”

Juventus boss Max Allegri on the other hand has given regular playing time to Fagioli and Miretti this season.

“They are two good players. One of them [Miretti ] is very young, but both will have a great future in the national team,” said Mancini.

“However, we have no problems in midfield. We have problems in attack, and some problems in defence, but we are covered in midfield.”

Mancini’s former club Sampdoria sit at rock bottom of the Serie A table, something the CT does not enjoy seeing: “I’m sorry for what’s going on. Deki [Stankovic] is giving his all. The fans are always backing the team even if the situation is difficult, I am sorry to see what’s happening.”

The Italian tactician also spoke about the upcoming match with England in Naples, confirming he will call up Argentine-born striker Mateo Retegui.
