Italy CT Roberto Mancini feels Nicolo Zaniolo has ‘all the qualities needed’ but warns Sandro Tonali ‘must gain experience at higher levels’ than Serie B.

Zaniolo and Tonali are considered the future of Italy’s midfield but while the former is getting game time for Roma, Tonali remains with Brescia in the second tier.

“I’m glad Zaniolo played because I’d followed him at the Euro U19 Championship, where he did very well, and he’s impressed me a lot,” continued Mancini to Radio Anch’io Sport.

“I’m glad Zaniolo played because I’d followed him at the Euro U19 Championship, where he did very well, and he’s impressed me a lot,” continued Mancini to Radio Anch’io Sport.

“He has all the qualities we need, including being left-footed. He’s caught my eye and I’ve wanted to see him live. I’m glad he can play for his club.

“Tonali? He’s in the same situation as Zaniolo: he’s a very young player and he must gain experience at higher levels.

“I think he’ll be important for the national team one day.”
