Roma defender Gianluca Mancini wants to stay at the club for ‘a long time’ and praises José Mourinho and Tammy Abraham.

The Italian defender sees his contract expire in June 2024 and was linked with Chelsea and Manchester United in the past.

However, Mancini is not considering leaving the Giallorossi at this moment of his career.

“The contract extension is not a priority, but I see myself at Roma for a long time,” he told Il Messaggero.

“Vito Scala often talks to me about the Scudetto and I’d like to live the same feelings here. We are a young team and we are improving,” the defender added.

“Mourinho is a leader, he raises the bar. You immediately want to give more as soon as you see him. We are lucky to have him. We were all excited when the club announced him.

“We need to remain balanced. If we win against Juve and Napoli and then we lose to Cagliari, it’s all useless. Right now, we are not Scudetto material, but there’s a lot up for grabs from here until Christmas.”

Roma have gone through many changes over the last few months.

Not only José Mourinho arrived at the club, but the Giallorossi also signed Tammy Abraham from Chelsea. The Englishman has replaced Edin Dzeko who joined Inter.

“It was the right time to change for him, we will be opponents in the pitch, but our relationship off the pitch won’t change,” said Mancini about the Bosnian striker.

“Abraham has impressive skills, quality and desire to win. A beautiful thing to see, he has a great future ahead.”

The former Chelsea striker has scored four goals in 10 appearances across all competitions with the Giallorossi so far this season.

Mancini joined the Giallorossi from Atalanta on an initial loan deal with an obligation to buy for €19m in 2019.

Roma made his move permanent one year ago. He has seven goals in 92 appearances with the Giallorossi.
