France coach Didier Deschamps insists he’s ‘always thought’ about Theo Hernandez, although the Milan defender ‘must improve defensively.’

The Rossoneri star played his second game with France national team yesterday, helping Les Blues to secure a 3-2 win over Belgium with a late goal at the Allianz Stadium.

France recovered from two goals down in the UEFA Nations League semifinals and will face Spain in the Final on Sunday.

Despite being among Milan’s best performers over the last two seasons, Deschamps had never given Theo a France call-up before September.

“I’ve always included him in the preliminary squad, but there is a lot of competition,” the former Juventus coach told Sport Mediaset as quoted y ANSA.

“I’ve been thinking about him for a while, he is doing really well and he is continuing to do so, even if he must improve defensively.”

Theo joined Milan from Real Madrid in a €20m deal in 2019. He has 16 goals and 17 assists in 90 appearances with the Serie A giants.

This past September, he made his senior France debut in their 2-0 win over Finland in a World Cup qualifying match.

The Frenchman scored his first goal with Les Blues against Belgium yesterday.
