Manchester United’s Jesse Lingard has been linked with a move to Milan in the summer, but the Red Devil is just one of the options to bolster Stefano Pioli’s attacking options in 2022-23.

The Rossoneri’s owners Elliott are in talks with Bahrain-based fund Investcorp over a €1.18 billion takeover deal which may allow Paolo Maldini and Ricky Massara to handle a €300m transfer budget in the summer.

Il Corriere dello Sport newspaper reports that Lille’s Sven Botman will likely be their first signing for 2022-23, but one of Milan’s priorities is to give Pioli more options in attack. Liverpool’s Divock Origi is close to reaching an agreement with the Rossoneri and he won’t be the only new face at San Siro next season.

Il Corriere dello Sport quotes British media saying that Manchester United’s Lingard is one of the players monitored by the Rossoneri. The England international is available as a free agent as his contract at Old Trafford runs out in June.

Agents confirm Milan and Arsenal’s interest in Asensio

Domenico Berardi is another option, but Sassuolo‘s asking price is in the region of €30m. Manchester City’s Riyad Mahrez is another player linked with the Rossoneri. His contract at the Etihad Stadium runs out in June 2023 and the Serie A giants may afford his hefty salary thanks to the growth decree which would allow them to save 50% on the player’s gross salary.

A few weeks ago, Marco Asensio’s agents confirmed the Rossoneri interest in the Spain international who has been offered a contract extension by Real Madrid. However, he will make a decision over his future at the end of the season, waiting to know whether Kylian Mbappé will move to Spain.

Milan also need to sign a new centre forward regardless of the future of Zlatan Ibrahimovic. Sebastien Haller, Gianluca Scamacca, Jonathan David and Darwin Nunez are on the Rossoneri’s radars, but the choice on Milan’s new striker will also depend on how much money they’ll be able to invest in the summer.

Juve and Milan lead race for Lingard

4 thought on “Mahrez, Lingard and more: Milan’s targets to bolster attacking options”
  1. No need to go crazy. They should let Maldini to continue doing their thing and grow the squad in a sensible manner.

First thing that needs to be done is contract extensions, for everyone other than Kessié and Romagnoli. Then with 300m I’d bring in Botman, Sanches and Origi as previously planned. That’s roughly 55, 60m in transfer fees.

The rest should be spent on 3 key players. An attacking midfielder, a right winger and another center forward. Forget about jokers like Lingard, we need to either invest in elite players like Mahrez OR up and coming players with huge potential like Nkunku.

Third option is to go for wonderkids, but there’s a risk involved there.

  2. Milan Fan: Agree entirely.

The best thing about the new owners is we can relax about the futures of Theo, Leao (who I think will be unplayable in a couple of years), Tonali etc.

Botman, Sanches (fingers crossed) and Origi already makes us the best in the league and gives us a shot at getting through any UCL group. Personally I’d then like to see a top level no.9 and then wise investment in young attacking players.

I hope and think we’ll keep our smarts and not behave like certain EPL clubs who sign anyone that has three good games, knowing future losses won’t hurt them if it doesn’t work out.

  3. Agree with Milan Fan,
need to invest money sensibly, IMHO the best fits would include Beradi, Nkunku, and Nunez or Scamacca. Plus, of course Botman,
