Atalanta are showing an interest in Massimo Maccarone after he was relegated with Sampdoria last season.

The Bergamo boys, who won promotion last term, are looking to significantly strengthen their strike force.

Maccarone could be made available for transfer after Doria brought in two new attackers for their Serie B campaign.

Cristian Bertani has arrived from Novara, while Federico Piovaccari has come in too after he was last season's top scorer in the second tier thanks to his 23 goals for Cittadella.

Maccarone joined Sampdoria in January, after six months at Palermo, but only netted three goals in 17 games.

The former Middlesbrough player is approaching 32 and impressed during his campaigns at Siena between 2007 and 2010.
