Roma boss Luis Enrique has insisted his plans revolve around Daniele De Rossi remaining at the club.

The Italian's future in the capital has been placed into some doubt after a problematic 2010-11 campaign and the fact that his contract expires in June 2012.

"He is one of the most important players around, not only at Roma, but in Italy and the world," the new Giallorossi tactician noted. "For me he is fundamental, a key element."

The Roman, born on 24 July 1983, is a product of his hometown club's youth academy.

"I already knew him as a player, but I like him even more now that I know him as a person," added the tactician.

"It's nice to see his hunger to win, but also how he listens. He works with humility to place himself at the disposal of the squad.

"I hope he feels a part of this project."

De Rossi, who made his debut for the club in 2001, has played in 249 League games for the outfit, scoring 29 goals.

His name has been linked with Real Madrid on more than one occasion in the past.

New sporting director Walter Sabatini has claimed that he intends to renew the contract of the 2006 World Cup winner.
