Empoli forward Massimo Maccarone expects a “very difficult” season and wants “support from everyone.”

The Tuscan side surprised everyone by staying up last term, but are just two points above the relegation zone as things stand, albeit with the same number of points as at this stage last season.

“We’re feeling good now, but we know we have an important game [against Genoa] on Saturday,” Maccarone told Empoli Channel.

“We’re feeling good now, but we know we have an important game [against Genoa] on Saturday,” Maccarone told Empoli Channel.

“We’re preparing well for the match against Genoa, and we’re coming off a game where we went toe-to-toe with Roma.

“We’re trying to improve, but we have a lot of new lads who have to integrate, and you can’t be perfect straight away.

“We have to try and get as many points as possible to move away from the drop zone. We’re always facing good teams, but we take it game-by-game.

“Everyone knows Empoli, we know that we were born to suffer. I expect support from everyone, our fans have never failed us, and that’s important for us.

“We’re two points away from mid-table and from the drop zone. It’s very finely-poised, and very difficult.”
