Olympique Lyonnais are close to agreeing a deal with Chelsea, but it’s reported Emerson Palmieri will try to wait for Napoli a little longer.

The left-back is on the market and his contract is due to expire at the end of the season.

According to Sportitalia, Lyon are ready to put forward a new and increased offer to purchase the Italy international, intending to clinch an agreement within 48 hours.

However, the same source and also Radio Kiss Kiss Napoli maintain Emerson would prefer a return to Italy for Napoli, where he’d reunite with his former Roma coach Luciano Spalletti.

So even if Chelsea do agree terms with Lyon, Emerson could try to delay the transfer, giving Napoli an opportunity to improve their proposal.

The Brazil-born left-back just turned 27 earlier this month and was part of the squad that won the UEFA EURO 2020 tournament.

He has 19 caps for Italy and left Roma for Chelsea in a €20m deal in January 2018.
