Lazio President Claudio Lotito has been fined €10,000 after mocking Juventus director Giuseppe Marotta.

The Aquile patron had been at odds with Marotta all summer after the Bianconeri director supported Demetrio Albertini’s candidacy for FIGC President while Lotito backed eventual winner Carlo Tavecchio.

The Biancocelesti President was later asked whether the two had made up, with Lotito responding that Marotta was ‘playing pool with one eye and counting points with the other.’

The Juventus director general declined to respond to the jibe, but the FIGC has taken a dim view of the incident.

Calcio’s governing body has issued Lotito with a €10,000 fine for “insulting comments toward Dr Giuseppe Marotta, general manager of Juventus FC, in breach of Article 1 of the Code of Sporting Justice.”

Lazio have been given an identical penalty for the offence, as they are deemed to be directly responsible for the words of their President.
