The Giallorossi welcome Rafa Benitez’s men to Olimpico knowing that a defeat could see city rivals Lazio overtake them, and put the Partenopei within touching distance.

“At the moment Lazio are a very good team,” Ljajic admitted in an interview with Sky.

“They’re going through a great period, but at the moment we’re second and they’re still third, so we have to maintain this position.

“Roma-Napoli is a game which is so important, where things can be decided, although not 100 per cent.

“We know we don’t have a striker like [Gonzalo] Higuain, but Roma get a lot of players around the goal. We’ll try to play our football and win.

“If we win, we’ll take an important step forward. There are a lot of other good teams who are fighting with us, but we want to maintain second place and we’ll fight until the end.

“Higuain? He’s a great player, one who can really make a difference. I like watching him play, but I hope he doesn’t score on Saturday.

“For me, it’s always important to play in front of our fans, we know our home and we want to play well. We hope to secure a crucial victory.”
