The Champions League Round of 16 fixture kicked off at 20.00 GMT and was still at 0-0 after 25 minutes when play was halted.

Liverpool manager Jurgen Klopp and his staff alerted the fourth official that there was an incident towards the back of the Kop section of the stadium.

Medical staff quickly ran towards the stands and assisted the supporter who it’s reported had a cardiac incident.

They remained for a few minutes, but then left the stands to applause from the crowd and the players who were gathered on the touchline during the break in play.

It is not the first time that a match in England has been temporarily paused due to a medical emergency in the crowd, as each stadium has a dedicated medical team.
