Liverpool have emerged as the favourites in a growing race for Morocco midfielder Sofyan Amrabat, although Fiorentina continue to insist they will not sell.

He helped the North Africans reach the World Cup quarter-finals for the first time in their history, beating Spain on penalties.

The 26-year-old stood out with his performances in the group phase too and his agent confessed he was receiving “a lot of phone calls” for the player.

According to Footmercato in France, Amrabat has particularly drawn focus from the Premier League, with Liverpool the absolute favourites for his signature.

They had already done some work on this before the World Cup kicked off in Qatar, with suggestions his entourage has met with Liverpool coach Jurgen Klopp.

Antonio Conte’s Tottenham Hotspur are also known to be keeping a close eye on the situation.

Born and raised in the Netherlands, Amrabat came up through the FC Utrecht academy, played for Feyenoord and Club Brugge before the switch to Serie A and Verona in 2019.

He was sold to Fiorentina for €19.5m in January 2020, remaining at the Bentegodi on loan for a further six months.

His price-tag has doubled since then, but the Viola continue to maintain they have no intention of selling Amrabat in the January transfer window.
