Fabio Liverani believes Lecce “created a lot of chances against an extraordinary Inter side” in their 1-1 draw at the Via del Mare.

Although the Salentini are without a home win in Serie A this season, they have now held both Juventus and Inter to 1-1 stalemates here.

“Sometimes games go the way they are predicted, others they don’t. We suffered as much as we needed to and considering the quality of the two teams, Lecce created a lot of chances,” Liverani told Sky Sport Italia.

“I think Inter are an extraordinary side and this result rewards Lecce for having some difficulties, missed six or seven key players, which made it tough even to have competition for places in training.

“I’ve worked in Serie C, B and A, with 20-25 players fighting for places. Competition in training is essential at this level and it’s the only way we can keep the tension up going into each weekend.

“We are in sync with the club, but the timing of the transfer market isn’t always what we want it to be. We have worked out the characteristics of the players we want to bring in, so we have more competition for places in training and keep everyone on their toes.

“Some players are champions, who do it all themselves, but others need more motivation, to be constantly pushed to give everything in each session. I can’t get that intensity in them otherwise.”
